Abstract |
Increase in interconnection of renewables and electrified transportation fleets around the world has brought about the need for a variety of different inverter technologies. However, guaranteeing resilient operation of power grids featuring inverters is still an open field of research with many questions remaining open such as fault response, stability, ability to sustain grid interconnection while meeting reliability criteria, and facilitating performance across timescales. This tutorial will provide an overview of different inverter controls (grid following versus grid forming), modeling mechanisms and simulation techniques that acknowledge power systems and power electronics attributes, and analytical methods to verify stability. |
